Looking to have a little fun in the sun this summer near our student apartments in Durham, NC? Hey, who isn't? Now that the weather is warming up and the sun is shining, everyone is heading outdoors. Everyone is also thinking more about self-care and wellness. That's why you need to know about Durham's Festival of Life: A Celebration of Mind, Body, and Spirit! The festival brings together having summertime fun, supporting local businesses, and taking care of your spiritual, emotional, and physical wellbeing in a unique and very enjoyable way.
The 2019 Festival of Life takes place over two days: Friday, June 8 at 10 am through Saturday, June 9 at 6 p.m.
The Durham Armory at 220 Foster Street in Durham, North Carolina.
It's absolutely FREE!
The heart of the festival is the vendors, all offering items and services to nourish your body as well as your soul. There will be handmade and vegan bath and body products, tarot readings, and more! You can also expect guest speakers, food trucks, and an enormous gaming area thanks to the festival's sponsor, Triangle Game Night. Finally, you are encouraged to bring canned goods to donate to the Durham Rescue Mission. Each donation will earn you a ticket for the day's raffle.
The Festival of Life was first dreamed up more than 20 years ago by two friends--Eileen Connolly and Marlene Dunphy. Their passion was to combine the healing power of holistic, metaphysical, and medical methods in one place, and make it accessible to absolutely everybody. Unfortunately, cancer took Eileen away in 2015, before she could see her dream realized. Two short years later, Marlene was also diagnosed with cancer, and it began to look as though the festival might never happen. But wonderfully, Marlene has made a full recovery and is able to make her and her dear friend's dream come true!
