Who doesn't love an event that combines authentic Italian food and top-of-the-line wine? On June 9, 2019, Melina's Fresh Pasta in Durham, North Carolina plans to host such an event.
Carmella, owner and pasta maker, hails from Syracuse, New York. Melina was the nickname by which her family referred to her. After years of watching her mother make wonderful meals from the produce her father grew in his garden, she wished to share the Italian tradition of fresh quality food with others.
In 2010 she traveled to Bologna, Italy for professional training to supplement her mother's lessons and to become an expert in the tradition of fresh pasta making. When she returned, she began making pasta as a hobby, and with the assistance of her college roommates, began offering it at local farmer's markets. When a week's worth of pasta sold out immediately, Melina decided it was time to expand.
The business of Melina's Fresh Pasta, was born. Her pasta is available from the shop, and from other locations in the greater Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill area. Classes are now offered for those wishing to learn the methods of traditional pasta making.
On June 9th, Melina's pasta will play host to the Durham Italian Food and Wine Festival. The plan is casual, updates will be provided as needed, but there is sure to be an abundance of fresh, delicious Italian fare, as well as quality wine to complement it.
