Check Out the Art of Cool Festival This Weekend

North Carolina has always had strong ties to music, so it's no surprise that several music festivals have found a home here. One of them, The Art of Cool Festival, widely known as AOCFEST, is celebrating its sixth year in downtown Durham September 27th-29th.

WHAT IS AOCFEST?

AOCFEST melds R&B, hip-hop, neo-soul, jazz, and alternative music, as well as spoken word. This year there are more than 20 artists performing at six venues. Headliners include Run DMC and three-time Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter and New York Times best-selling poet Jill Scott. Additional acts set to perform at AOCFEST include Whodini, Ari Lennox, Black Violin, and many more.

Organizers anticipate more than 15,000 festivalgoers from all over the country will come to Durham to take part in the weekend of forward-thinking music and culture.

MORE THAN JUST MUSIC

In addition to the many musical acts, the festival also features a large vendor market. The AOCFEST Urban Vendor Market is back and bigger than ever with food trucks, unique art and other goods, and a large beer garden. The Urban Market will be located adjacent to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park main stage venue and is open to the public.

In partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, this year AOCFEST is also presenting Keeping it Cool: Body, Mind & Spirit Pop-Up Series. This wellness-focused string of events features yoga sessions, juice shots, and live DJs. The pop-ups will be set up at the BCBSNC Retail Centers in Charlotte and Raleigh.

TICKETS

Ticket options include single day and weekend general admission, as well as upgraded VIP passes. VIP wristbands include expedited entry, an exclusive viewing area near the main stage, and access to VIP lounges throughout the venue.

HISTORY OF AOCFEST

The festival was created by the nonprofit Art of Cool Project, which focuses on jazz education, particularly in young musicians, and inspiring the community through music, culture, and entrepreneurship. Art of Cool won Pruvop's Pitch Challenge with its idea for the festival, and in 2014 AOCFEST was born.
